Textile designing is one such industry that involves expertise from various fields of studies and it requires people ranging from technology, chemical engineering, artists and stylists, photographers, accountants to sales and marketing people. There are also growing opportunities with government sponsored and private silk, handloom, khadi, jute and craft development organisations, and with hosiery and home furnishing export units largely centered around Panipat, Tirupur and Coimbatore.

As a textile designer, you can work with an established garments manufacturer, designer online retailer or with an export house dealing with marketing or merchandising of garments. The other big option would be of self-employment or opening your own outlet. Degree courses in textile design are available at various institutions. With the rise of online merchandising, the is demand for computer professionals as well.
